WEEK 8 - Learner Autonomy and One-Computer Class.

Dear friends,

During this week we studied two important topics: Learner Autonomy and One-Computer Class.

Learner autonomy is a key future in the new educational world, all educators and educational thinkers agree on the role of learners in teaching and learning process. They believe that students and learners must have great role, they are right, why? Because, at the end, all we want to prepare students to real life, they are target and investment. So we as teachers, of new generation, must encourage learner autonomy to make them: independent, decision-makers, self-guided. By doing this we help the community that we prepared active characters for them.
One – Computer Class also is very important idea to be used. We, in Iraq and other poor countries, don't have enough computer and other tech tools to be used in the classes, so I think one-computer style will help a lot. This topic is really new for me, I hope I can use it in a good way as I mentioned in my post at discussion board.

Best wishes,
Shaswar.

  1. Dear Shaswar.
I liked alot your sentence which says"learner autonomy is the key for the future educational world",the future do need from us to get ride from our traditional thinkings of teaching and concentereting on students to be independent and decision makers ,so we have to pave the way for the new generations to depend on them selve to learn with our supervision and guidiance.

  3. Hi,
You are right about the concept of learner autonomy which is the future of learning and consider as one of the main new methods that help both teacher and the students, and in the same time the results would be better and better.
The one- computer in Iraq is practical as you mentioned and we can solve some of the issue that we daily face and it could bring new light and ideas especially to the young learners.
    Thanks,
    Shaima.

  4. Dear, Shaswar,

First of all, I am really honored to have a chance to read your blog. Besides, I would like to comment on what you have been mentioned in your post on the second topic. You say that ''let students listen to the songs, pronunciation items so as to hear natural voice and repeat it for fluency improvement.'' Here, I would like to add something. Beside improving the fluency of our students, songs can be exploited in developing the comprehensive and grammatical skills of our students by creating a ''GAP FILL'' drill based upon the song chosen and ask our students to fill in the blank after hearing the song at least three times.

    Yours,
    Ameer

  5. Dear Shaswar,

Your comment that learner autonomy helps prepare our students for real life is a very good point. The more students can do on their own (including building skills for lifelong learning), the better off they will be.

I also liked your use of color in your blog post.

    Yours,
    Deborah
